Welcome to metro 2023

  • I am so excited that Metro 2023 is almost here!! Wil and I, along with the rest of the board, have been hard at work planning and preparing. Metro will be here in a few short weeks. We are all looking forward to spending the week together!

    The theme for Metro this year is “Rest”. Full time ministry, family obligations, work, and difficult seasons can all lead to feelings of burnout and exhaustion. We are praying that however you show up to Metro, that you will each leave feeling rested and encouraged. We want each of you to know that you are welcome just as you are. You don’t have to be “on” or feel the pressure to be an alternate version of yourself. We want YOU!

    We are all coming from different seasons of life and ministry. There can be so many different emotions that each of us will be walking into Metro with:

    • On the highest of highs

    • In the lowest of lows

    • Struggling in the place of ministry that you are currently in

    • Happier than you’ve ever been

    • Can’t wait to be with friends or meet new friends

    • Anxious about meeting new friends

    • Excited to have a break from work and kids

    • Already stressing about taking a week off or leaving your kids

    • Ready to wear all your cute outfits and have some fun

    • Anxious about how you look or what clothes you’ll wear

    I think we could all add to this list and go on and on. I hope that each of you know that Metro is for each and every one of us in whatever state of mind or season that we’re in. I am praying that Metro is a week of rest, relaxation, restoration, fun, and encouragement. Metro has meant so much to me over the last few years. It has been so encouraging to realize that we are all in this together. I have found community and lifelong friends in the women at Metro. Looking forward to a week of fun with you!!

  • Children at Metro:

    It is the historical suggestion for YP Metro, that children not attend with parents. It is the hope that parents are able to get away for a week of investing in yourselves and your spouse. We ask that only children who are breastfeeding, attend with their parents. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding this or we can assist you in any way.

    Sunday Night:

    We will kick off Metro with the “Welcome Dinner” at Tommy Bahamas. This night will be a time to mix, mingle and enjoy some amazing food. We will also be giving you a surprise welcome gift!! We will each have assigned seats with our husbands. If you are new to Metro, you will be seated with a couple who have been attending Metro for several years. This night will be “dressy casual/cute casual”. Most of the wives wear maxi dresses, skirts, white pants, jeans etc. The weather can vary and we will be sitting outdoors. Please bring a jacket or sweater if the weather seems like it might be a little chilly at night.

    Monday:

    This will be our first wives session. We will have breakfast together and hear from a speaker. This is very low stress and time to chat and enjoy breakfast and coffee. Think of this as a super fun brunch with 40 of your girlfriends! There will be lots of surprises and giveaways as well. Most of the wives wear a t-shirt, cute/casual top, or sweatshirt with leggings, shorts, or jeans. My goal is to be comfortable!

    The wives room is just down the hall from the room that the guys meet in. You will need to have a general idea of where this is located, because our meeting start times are different than the husbands. The meeting rooms are located in the clubhouse/tennis shop/fitness center. You will come through the main door, past the front desk, and walk straight ahead into the tennis shop. Turn left and go up the stairs at the front of the tennis shop. You will walk down the hall past the guy’s room. Our room will be the open door at the end of the hallway.

    We will have lunch with the guys in the afternoon (possibly poolside/bring sunglasses). After lunch, we will head back to our rooms to change for the beach. The wives usually wear their swimsuit under a coverup or shorts and t-shirt. Some wives will participate in the beach volleyball tournament and others will hang out on the beach. This is a great time to chat and get to know some of the other wives. You might want to bring a beach chair.

    Dinner will be on your own Monday night. Most people go in groups to several popular restaurants in Destin. You can reach out to any of us on the board and join our groups for dinner if you don’t have plans!

    Tuesday:

    This will be our second wives session, very similar to the first. Again, lunch with our husbands in the afternoon.

    After lunch we will head back to our rooms to change for the beach. We will play the final rounds of the beach volleyball tournament this afternoon.

    Dinner Tuesday night will be a night of fun and entertainment at Watercolor Lakehouse. This venue is approximately 30 minutes away. You can carpool with other couples if you want to. The attire will be slightly dressier than Tommy Bahamas. I think most people will wear dresses, skirts, jumpsuits, or dressy pants. One of our metro wives will be taking couples photos poolside for everyone as they arrive. This will be a venue first for Metro, so we are super excited to see how it turns out. This will be a fun one!!

    Wednesday:

    One of our metro wives from last year will be leading an optional workout session on the pool deck this morning. Most people wear shorts and a t-shirt (Or workout attire). If you choose not to attend, you have the morning free for sleeping in, shopping, breakfast with another wife, going to the beach, etc. Lunch will be with our husbands in the afternoon. The couples putt-putt tournament will take place at the putt-putt course down near the beach (just past the Summit, on the right) after lunch. If you choose not to participate, you are welcome to spend time at the beach or pool.

    Dinner this night will be on your own again.

    Thursday:

    You have this morning free to pack or do whatever you would like to do on your last morning at Metro. We will have an optional coffee and hangout at the Starbucks a few minutes down the road from Tops’l. We will have our last lunch together with our husbands and that will close out Metro 2023!! We can’t wait to see you all very soon!!
